Taxonomic history:
John Merle Coulter in the 1894 Memoirs of the Torrey Botanical Club (volume 5, page 127), placed Liquidambar peregrina in the genus Comptonia. The current name for this species is Comptonia peregrina (L.) J.M. Coult.
