Directions. From the intersection of Routes 3 and 102/198 at the north end of Mount Desert Island, go straight ahead (south) onto Routes 102/198. In approximately 5.2 miles (and at the south end of the village of Somesville), turn right onto Pretty Marsh Road (Route 102). In about 12.2–12.3 miles, go straight ahead, leaving Route 102; do not follow Route 102 as it curves to the left. Travel approximately 0.3 miles to a stop sign, and then turn right onto Route 102A. The cemetery is on the left in about 0.3 miles. Alternatively, from the traffic light at the north end of Mount Desert Island, go straight ahead (south) onto Routes 102/198, but do not turn right onto Pretty Marsh Road. Approximately 13.0 miles from the traffic light at the beginning, go straight ahead following the sign to Bass Harbor instead of staying to the right on Route 102. The cemetery is on the left in about another 0.5–0.6 miles.

History. This cemetery is on land that was part of a 100-acre parcel owned by Joshua Norwood in 1808 according to the Salem Towne Jr. map. The cemetery is found in the 1881 Colby Atlas. Recently, the associations of the McKinley and Hillrest cemeteries merged.

Notes. This cemetery is enclosed by a chain-link fence and is well maintained. Some stones lean or lay on ground. All stones appear (2000) to have been cleaned recently as they bear few or no lichens.
