Location. In woods east of Beech Hill Road. UTM: 19T 0552508, 4907878; Lat./Long.: N 44°19′20.1″ x W 68°20′29.4″

Directions. From the intersection of Routes 3 and 102/198 at the north end of Mount Desert Island, go straight ahead (south) onto Routes 102/198. In approximately 5.2 miles (and at the south end of the village of Somesville), turn right onto Pretty Marsh Road (Route 102). In about 0.2–0.3 miles, turn left onto Beech Hill Road. (Note: this turn is easy to pass as it is just over a hill and in a curve.) In approximately 2.6 miles (just before the northern border of Acadia National Park property and just before an intersection on the right with Sand Point Road), there is a stone wall that runs perpendicular to the left (east) side of Beech Hill Road. Follow this stone wall, which is occasionally obscure, to the cemetery. (Near the south side of the wall, there is a ring of rocks around a spring.)

History. In 1897, a deed (Hancock County Registry of Deeds, book 318, page 438) from Andrew J. Carter to the "legal heirs of Andrew J. Carter" conveyed a "right of way from the ... town road to the ... burying ground" as well as "twelve square rods, more or less" that was "to be used for the purpose of a family burying ground and for no other purpose".

Notes. Some trees were cut in the spring of 1999(?). Until the extensive clearing of land at Camp Beechcliff in 2010, this was a quiet cemetery in the woods.
