Cemeteries of Cranberry Isles and the Towns of Mount Desert Island

Ever since we published the book Cemeteries of Cranberry Isles and the Towns of Mount Desert Island, we have been asked if we had heard of this or that cemetery. Also, people have told us about an old cemetery or, more often, a stone or two that they remember or that they had been told about. We welcome these contacts and have created this page to be a clearing house about these leads. Please direct any information to V. F. Thomas Co.

Bar Harbor (formerly Eden)

Where is the "Duck Brook Cemetery"? I have hiked several times along the brook--50 feet away, 75 feet away, etc.--and have not found anything. --RJF, Ellsworth

I remember seeing a stone along the power line north of the Crooked Road. --GM, Bar Harbor
It was reported at the 18 May 2002 meeting of the Hancock County Genealogical Society that that stone had been observed (date?) leaning against a pole. If you're looking for an interesting hike, take your camera along and get a picture if the stone is still there.

I have heard of some stones behind a house on Route 3 just north of the line between Bar Harbor and Mount Desert. --TFV, Bar Harbor

"My grandmother grew up in the homestead that used to sit where EBS [Ellsworth Builders Supply, Bar Harbor] is now. She said that about 100 years ago she had an infant brother buried in the area across the road from there. She knows there was no stone for that but says that there was a couple in the general area of his grave. She says only that she knows it was family but is unsure of who." --PLH, Bar Harbor
