This book included all known cemeteries for the Hancock County, Maine, towns of Cranberry Isles, Bar Harbor, Mount Desert, Southwest Harbor, and Tremont. For each cemetery, there are directions, notes about its condition, occasionally historical information, plus the day of the final visit to the cemetery before the book's publication. The data for each cemetery are arranged alphabetically by surnames (=last names) and under each surname by given names (=first names), also alphabetically arranged. There are footnotes at the end of most cemeteries that usually explain why a particular number or letter on a gravestone could not be determined with certainty but also give other information about a stone (e.g., when a letter or number is upside down or backwards). An index to all surnames is provided.
