Directions to trail head. Drive south from the village of Bar Harbor to the parking lot on the west (right) side of the road just before (north of) the Tarn. Walk along the north end of the Tarn, crossing the stepping stones over a stream just before the trail head. On your right will be the sign post, the "back" of which is shown here.

Trail details. In front of you are the steps beginning Kurt Diederich's Climb. (To your left is the Tarn Trail / Kane Path (ANP #17) that runs along the west side of the Tarn, and to your right is the Jesup Path (ANP #14) that leads to the Sieur de Monts area.)

The climb ends in 0.4 or 0.5 miles (0.6–0.8 km) at the intersection with the upper end of the Emery Path (ANP #15) and lower end of the Schiff Path (ANP #18), the latter path leading to a point near the summit of Dorr Mountain.
