Route. Between Great (Long) Pond Fire Road near the Pine Hill parking area and Great Notch

Directions to trail head. From Route 102 (across from the north intersection with the Cape Road) turn east onto the south end of the Great (Long) Pond fire road. Soon the trail head (image at right) will be on your right and a short road leading to the Pine Hill parking area will be on your left.

Trail details. On the left in 1.0 mile will be an intersection with the Great (Long) Pond Trail, which leads northeast to the west shore of Long Pond and then south along the shore to the pumping station and parking area at the south end of the pond.

Staying on the Western Mountain trail will bring you to the Great Notch in 0.4 miles (0.6 km).
