Route. Between Gilley Field and Great Notch, passing within 0.1 miles of the summit of Mansell Mountain.

Directions to trail head. Follow Western Mountain Road to Gilley Field.

Trail details. At the signpost (image at right) follow the arrow that points to the right.

As you climb you will catch some views of Bernard Mountain on your left and ...

... and Beech Mountain with its tower on your right.

When you see the overlook sign, be sure to take advantage of the view of Greening Island and the islands of the town of Cranberry Isles.

When you come to the intersection on the right with the Perpendicular Trail (ANP #119; image at near right), you may wish to take advantage of the short (0.1 miles) walk to the summit of Mansell Mountain (image at far right), although there is no distant view from there. Continuing on the Mansell Mount Trail / East Peak Trail, you will come to ...

... the intersection on the left with the Razorback Trail (ANP #112).

Continuing straight (that is, not turning onto the Razorback Trail), you will look over the Great Notch and see Bernard Mountain to your left and Bartlett Island before you with Blue Hill beyond Bartlett.

Finally you will reach the Great Notch, the end point of the Mansel Mountain Trail / East Peak Trail.
