Welcome to the Town Records of Mount Desert Island home page, part of the Mount Desert Island Cultural History Project.

Purpose of this web page: The purpose of this web page is to present town records for each of the towns on Mount Desert Island with the exception of Trenton, which covers only a very small portion at the northern end of the island.

The towns named below are listed in their order of incorporation. Information about a town prior to its incorporation will be found under the town from which it was taken.

Mount Desert - incorporated 17 February 1789
Eden (now Bar Harbor) - incorporated 23 February 1796 as Eden
Seaville (now part of Mount Desert and Tremont) - incorporated 9 March 1838; unincorporated 24 February 1859
Manset (now Tremont) - incorporated 3 June 1848 as Manset (name changed to Tremont 8 August 1848)
Southwest Harbor - incorporated February 1905
